The Templarias: The Keepers of Time

When the dates stopped meeting

A message crossed the CryptoWeb carrying a perfectly accurate date. In the universe that received it, the same date belonged to another age.

Nothing in the message was false. Nothing in its calendar was broken. Yet anyone who read it without knowing where its count began could place the event before a civilisation that had already witnessed it, or after a world that had not yet awakened.

Across Cosmos Zeta, the problem repeated itself. Universes had different beginnings. Peoples counted the reigns of their rulers, the journeys of their planets and the years since their own creation. Even the great universal chronologies began at different origins. Distance could be crossed. A date still needed to be translated.

Eva stood before the living records of the Templarian Chronicle. A line of gold passed beneath her navy blindfold, its light reflected along the edges of her ivory armour.

Eva: “Every world counts. They do not count together.”
The disagreement — Eva. EVERY WORLD COUNTS. THEY DO NOT COUNT TOGETHER.

She was the Keeper of the Unbroken Second. Her concern was the relationship between one moment and the next: what had happened, what followed, and whether the record still joined them without a missing instant.

Aevora approached with her solar chronometer upright beside her. Her turquoise braid rested heavily against her cloak.

Aevora: “They call each beginning Year One.”
Different beginnings — Aevora. THEY CALL EACH BEGINNING YEAR ONE.

The Keeper of Beginnings could identify the awakening of a CryptaSphere. That certainty did not make two awakenings simultaneous. A universe could be young while another had already carried countless peoples through their entire histories.

Serathiel inclined her green-haired head towards two lines that refused to meet.

Serathiel: “The same date can name different ages.”
Dates that disagree — Serathiel. THE SAME DATE CAN NAME DIFFERENT AGES.

Calystria listened to the discrepancy through the Chronicle. Around her, the archive held the resonances of distant beginnings. Its shining paths were a way to imagine what no mortal eye could literally see.

Calystria: “Without a shared reference, even the truth can arrive out of order.”
A message out of order — Calystria. WITHOUT A SHARED REFERENCE, EVEN THE TRUTH CAN ARRIVE OUT OF ORDER.

The Voice of the Chronicle had named the difficulty. The keepers could preserve separate histories with extraordinary care and still leave travellers unable to compare them. Cosmos Zeta needed an agreement about when.

The Templarias — English comic strip 1 — The count of ages

The six keepers

The Templarias belonged to the lineage of Silke. Within the Source, lineage could be an inheritance of essence, purpose and Astral identity. It could not be reduced to a mortal family tree. These six keepers shared that inheritance without sharing a single voice.

Eva guarded continuity. Aevora recognised beginnings. Serathiel read fractures in chronology. Maelis, Guardian of the Unlived, remained attentive to possibilities that had not become events. Oria Vey bore the Silent Hour, the discipline of attending to an interval without filling it with assumptions. Calystria gave the Chronicle a voice through which its knowledge could be understood.

Their responsibilities met in the same work: keeping creation located within time.

Oria Vey turned from the quiet passage beyond the archive. Copper hair fell over the gold-edged navy of her cloak.

Oria Vey: “Then let the cosmos agree on one moment.”
A shared moment — Oria Vey. THEN LET THE COSMOS AGREE ON ONE MOMENT.

Maelis considered what such an agreement might cost. A shared beginning could become a dangerous convenience if an ancient world's earlier history disappeared beneath it.

Maelis: “And let no world lose the years it has lived.”
The cost of a reset — Maelis. AND LET NO WORLD LOSE THE YEARS IT HAS LIVED.

Eva answered her. The order would have to preserve the connection between each older chronology and the new reference. Every former beginning would retain its place in the Chronicle.

Eva: “We can align the count. The lives remain.”
Continuity — Eva. WE CAN ALIGN THE COUNT. THE LIVES REMAIN.

Their covered eyes were part of that discipline. Physical sight drew attention towards the immediate surface of things. Beneath the cloth, they attended to chronology: resonance, sequence, the scars left by events and the possibilities still capable of divergence.

Their perception had limits. They could misinterpret what they sensed. A possibility could change. An unrecorded event could remain unknown. The blindfold did not turn uncertainty into certainty.

Before the Source

The Templarian Chronicle was a living Astral archive. Its apparent rings, halls and streams of light were artistic translations of a reality beyond physical understanding. It preserved the awakenings of universes and the relationships between consequential events. It could hold an ancient history without pretending to contain every private life within it.

Calystria stepped towards its opening paths.

Calystria: “Open the Chronicle.”
Opening the Chronicle — Calystria. OPEN THE CHRONICLE.

The six brought their account before Silke in the Source, the Astral World within the brilliant white Halo. The Source belonged to the same totality as the connected CryptaSpheres. Cosmos Zeta, Cosmos-Z and the Whole named that totality; a multiverse was the kind of reality it was.

Within each CryptaSphere lay a universe containing galaxies and histories. The CryptoWeb joined those spheres. A palace, a river of gold or a sphere full of stars could help a reader imagine these relationships. None was a literal photograph of the Astral realm.

Silke received the keepers without requiring them to disguise the difficulty.

Silke: “Show me where the histories fail to meet.”
The keepers petition Silke — Silke. SHOW ME WHERE THE HISTORIES FAIL TO MEET.

Calystria set out their records. Serathiel identified the points where an unexplained origin changed the meaning of a date. Eva followed the continuity between them. Maelis kept the histories behind those origins present in the discussion.

The problem had become larger than the work of six archivists. It affected communication, comparison and the balance of the Whole. A warning sent between universes needed a place in a shared chronology. So did an agreement, a discovery, a loss, or the beginning of a new world.

A universe about to begin

At that threshold, one CryptaSphere was approaching its awakening. Silke had permitted the universe of Zion to exist. The life associated with that universe would include the Sapiens, whose outward form resembled the form through which she appeared.

Aevora recognised the approaching beginning.

Aevora: “Tzion is about to begin.”
The approaching awakening — Aevora. TZION IS ABOUT TO BEGIN.

An awakening was a true origin for that universe. It would not make its older neighbours young. Long before the Sapiens told their first stories, other universes already possessed immense histories.

The Templarias — English comic strip 2

Serathiel kept that distinction before the gathering.

Serathiel: “Another birth cannot repair every clock.”
A necessary objection — Serathiel. ANOTHER BIRTH CANNOT REPAIR EVERY CLOCK.

Silke understood. A reference would need consent, continuity and keepers capable of preserving its relationship to everything that preceded it. The new universe offered an origin that all could name together.

Silke: “I choose Zion as our common reference.”
The choice — Silke. I CHOOSE ZION AS OUR COMMON REFERENCE.

The honour was deliberate. Silke's Sapiens-like appearance gave the choice a symbolic intimacy, and she granted Zion the privilege of lending its beginning to the common calendar. The other Astrals accepted that honour as a gesture of respect towards the universe and the peoples who would inhabit it.

Calystria established the name in the record.

Calystria: “Zion. Tzion. Two spellings. One universe.”
The name — Calystria. ZION. TZION. TWO SPELLINGS. ONE UNIVERSE.

Zion and Tzion are both valid spellings of the same name. Neither spelling identifies a second CryptaSphere, another people or a separate era. The Chronicle can retain either form while referring to the same universe. In these records, Tzion is often used for the universal chronology and its historical dates.

The agreement of the Astrals

The agreement belonged to all the Astrals. The Conclave carried the discussion within the Source, but its familiar members were not the whole Astral order. The decision extended across the connected universes of Cosmos-Z.

Maelis made the condition of that agreement unmistakable.

Maelis: “Honour one world. Leave every other world its history.”
The older histories — Maelis. HONOUR ONE WORLD. LEAVE EVERY OTHER WORLD ITS HISTORY.

No universe would surrender its age. No people would have to pretend that its ancestors had lived after the birth of a younger neighbour. Their old records would remain legible through their relationship to the common origin.

Oria Vey spoke for the breadth of the undertaking.

Oria Vey: “The oldest and the youngest must share this measure.”
The reach of the accord — Oria Vey. THE OLDEST AND THE YOUNGEST MUST SHARE THIS MEASURE.

Poseidon accepted the reach of the agreement. Virgo attended to the connections it would depend upon. Scorpio considered what vigilance would be needed when a distant chronology no longer matched the common count.

Poseidon: “Let no world stand outside the agreement.”
Virgo: “We will keep the connections.”
Scorpio: “We will watch for what falls out of step.”
The Astrals assent — Poseidon, Virgo, Scorpio. LET NO WORLD STAND OUTSIDE THE AGREEMENT. WE WILL KEEP THE CONNECTIONS. WE WILL WATCH FOR WHAT FALLS OUT OF STEP.

The consent of the Astrals made the coordination possible. Silke would authorise the synchronisation. The Templarias would perform the work of continuity, calibration, preservation and record through which that decision could endure.

The work before the instant

Eva took her place where the older count would meet the new. She had to preserve a continuous relationship across the reset, so that the Chronicle would not mistake a changed date for a missing stretch of existence.

Eva: “Then we hold the instant together.”
Holding the joining instant — Eva. THEN WE HOLD THE INSTANT TOGETHER.

Aevora stated the condition the synchronisation would follow: when Zion began, the shared count would begin. The first moment of that universe would also be the origin of the common calendar.

Aevora: “Zion begins. The shared count begins.”
The reference begins — Aevora. ZION BEGINS. THE SHARED COUNT BEGINS.

Serathiel followed the joins between the records. The places where two origins had once produced ambiguous dates now needed a known relationship. She checked for a broken sequence rather than assuming that a shining agreement had solved every detail.

Serathiel: “No break between one count and the next.”
Checking the join — Serathiel. NO BREAK BETWEEN ONE COUNT AND THE NEXT.

Maelis held the earlier histories within the work. Their preservation mattered as much as the reference being created. The unborn possibilities of those worlds also remained open; a new calendar could not decide what their inhabitants would become.

Maelis: “The past stays whole.”
Keeping the past — Maelis. THE PAST STAYS WHOLE.

Oria Vey attended to the transition in silence. The Silent Hour was the discipline she brought to it, not a claim that a mortal hour had passed in the Source. She would not let the noise of old names obscure the moment all had agreed to recognise.

Oria Vey: “Let the old names fall silent. Let the moment speak.”
The Silent Hour — Oria Vey. LET THE OLD NAMES FALL SILENT. LET THE MOMENT SPEAK.

Calystria kept the terms of the agreement ready to be entered into the living archive. Around the six, the histories remained different. Their reference was about to become shared.

The synchronisation

Silke gave her authorisation.

Silke: “Let every universe keep time with Zion.”
Silke authorises the synchronisation — Silke. LET EVERY UNIVERSE KEEP TIME WITH ZION.

Across the CryptoWeb, the cosmic count was reset and aligned with the Universal Calendar of Tzion. Its beginning was recognised throughout Cosmos Zeta. The universes retained their places, their histories and their own processes of change as the common reference took effect.

The event was a coordination of timekeeping. It did not recreate the universes, undo the lives already lived or force every planet to share the same sunrise. A date could now be expressed in one cosmic standard, even when the event it described belonged to a world far older than Tzion.

Calystria voiced the new origin.

Calystria: “Year I. Month I. Day I.”
Calystria: “00:00:00.”
The common origin is entered — Calystria. YEAR I. MONTH I. DAY I. 00:00:00.

Eva followed the continuity through the joining instant. The count moved forward without abandoning what lay behind it.

Eva: “The count is one.”
The count holds — Eva. THE COUNT IS ONE.

The Universal Calendar of Tzion and the shared Cosmic Calendar now advanced from the same origin. One identified the reference universe's chronology. The other extended that reference across the Whole.

That was the balance the Templarias had made possible: a common way to locate events, with the histories of the universes still intact.

How to read the new count

Aevora walked beside the records of universes that had begun long before the agreement. Their former origins remained in the Chronicle, connected to the common reference.

Aevora: “Their ages differ. Their dates now agree.”
Ages and dates — Aevora. THEIR AGES DIFFER. THEIR DATES NOW AGREE.

When a record gives a current Cosmic Calendar date, it uses the shared count aligned with Tzion. When it gives a universe's age since its own awakening, that is an age measurement with its own origin. A scholar must say which is being used. An old local Year III cannot be placed beside a shared Year I without that explanation.

The Templarias — updated calendar continuity, legacy-05

A complete reference identifies the universe, the calendar or age measure, and the moment. Planetary calendars may continue to serve ordinary life. The rotation of a planet, its seasons and the years remembered by its inhabitants do not become identical across the Cosmos.

The Astral standard operates at a far greater scale. In the established rounded conversion, one Universal Year represents approximately twelve billion mortal years. Its subdivisions use twelve months and a total of 365 days, with 24 hours per day, 60 minutes per hour and 60 seconds per minute. The twelve months should not be assumed to have an identical number of days.

On that approximation, one Universal Month averages roughly a billion mortal years. A Universal Day is about 32.9 million; an hour about 1.37 million; a minute about 22,831; and a second about 380.5 mortal years. These are conversions of a fictional Astral unit, not a planetary year stretched by magic within an ordinary person's experience.

The Templarias — English comic strip 3

Serathiel continued to examine the connected histories. The agreement gave her a reference against which a discrepancy could be understood; it did not remove the need to look for one.

Serathiel: “We will record every fracture.”
Continuing vigilance — Serathiel. WE WILL RECORD EVERY FRACTURE.

What the reset cannot decide

The Chronicle could record a beginning with care and still leave the future open. Maelis would not let a calendar become an excuse to call a possible life inevitable.

Maelis: “A shared calendar does not choose a future.”
The future remains open — Maelis. A SHARED CALENDAR DOES NOT CHOOSE A FUTURE.

The present date also could not reveal the true age of the Whole. Cosmos Zeta had existed before Tzion. The synchronisation established a new origin for the common count; it did not establish a new origin for existence.

The primordial chronology, and its relationship to the ages before the reset, remained within the deeper records guarded by the Astrals and the Templarias. No exact total age of Cosmos Zeta is disclosed here.

Calystria: “The age of the cosmos is older than its new count.”
The primordial depth — Calystria. THE AGE OF THE COSMOS IS OLDER THAN ITS NEW COUNT.

Tzion could therefore be young without making every universe young. The Sapiens could inherit an immense history within Universal Year I while older peoples carried traditions reaching far beyond Tzion's birth. The shared calendar gave those histories a meeting point.

The Templarias — English comic strip 4

A name and a moment

Much later in the history counted from that origin, a single home on Asaka would become a place the Templarias could identify with terrible precision.

Oria Vey stood beside its record.

Oria Vey: “Name the world. Name the moment.”
The precision of a record — Oria Vey. NAME THE WORLD. NAME THE MOMENT.

The record named the universe: Tzion, also written Zion. It named the Vita Planet: Asaka. It gave the Universal Calendar of Tzion, aligned with the shared Cosmic Calendar:

Year I · Month V · Day 21 · 14:00:21.033.

The date identified the attack in which the Rapax called Silence killed Tharan, Lira, Mina and Saya, and blinded Tara. A sequence of acts took place within a household; the timestamp was the chronicle's reference mark for that attack. Its precision did not mean that every act occupied the same indivisible instant.

The Templarias — English comic strip 11

The conversion mattered. On the rounded Astral scale, a Universal Second encompasses centuries of mortal history; 33 Universal milliseconds represent roughly 12.6 mortal years. Those digits must not be read as an ordinary watch measuring a brief human movement. An event's Astral reference and its duration in mortal time answer different questions.

Later records called the date the Asaka Mark, or the First Tzion Sumaya Mark. The title fixed a known event in this history. It did not prove that no Sumaya activity had occurred earlier elsewhere. Silence was a Rapax created by the Sumaya, rather than a Sumaya himself.

The Templarias — English comic strip 12

For Tara, the loss was immediate and personal. The shared count could locate it across universes. It could not express what it cost her.

The woman beyond the record

Reports of Tara's later awakening reached the keepers. Her Nexo allowed her to perceive living connection, intention and the relationships of a battlefield after ordinary sight had been destroyed. The resemblance to perception without physical sight drew their attention.

Serathiel asked Calystria who had taught Tara to close the first gate. Calystria answered that no such teacher was known. Serathiel called it impossible; Calystria reminded her that the reported act had still occurred. Neither answer made Tara an Astral.

The Templarias — English comic strip 8

One account told of Eva attending to Tara's chronology and feeling an unexpected disturbance. When Maelis asked what she had seen, Eva answered, “Nothing. That is what frightens me.” The account remained a reported encounter with uncertainty, not proof that Tara had looked into the Source.

The Templarias — English comic strip 9

Maelis made the distinction precise: Tara read connection, not time. Calystria entered the same restraint in the record. Nexo was not Templarian perception, and resemblance supplied no evidence of a hidden Astral ancestry, a divine selection or a prophecy.

The Templarias — English comic strip 10

They marked the record with one word: Observe. Tara's choices, the companions she would gather and the path she sought towards Genesis and the Kwasars remained hers to pursue. The keepers could attend to those possibilities without claiming to own them.

Tzion contained worlds Tara would never see, peoples whose histories she would never learn and eras far beyond the span of her own life. It could hold thousands of sagas. It was still one universe among the connected universes of the Whole.

The Templarias — English comic strip 13

The time of everyone

The synchronisation had not ended the work of the Templarias. It had made their responsibility clearer. Every new beginning needed to be located. Every uncertain report needed to retain its uncertainty. Every older history needed to remain connected to the count now shared across Cosmos-Z.

Eva and Calystria stood before the living Chronicle. Across its depths, one reference joined histories that would never become the same story.

Eva: “We keep the time of everyone.”
The time of everyone — Eva, Calystria. WE KEEP THE TIME OF EVERYONE.

Silke had granted Tzion an honour. The Astrals had agreed to share it. The six keepers had preserved the continuity that made the agreement possible.

The universe could be named Zion or Tzion. Its beginning had become the reference through which distant worlds could recognise a moment together. What those worlds did with the moments that followed remained a history still being made.
