The Entourage · Chapter III — Arkademy and the Three Pillars

Arkademy and the Three Pillars
Arkademy occupied an interconnected district of laboratories, libraries, workshops, cultural spaces and gardens. Students crossed bridges between buildings with projects in their hands and arguments still unfinished from the previous lesson.
Its facilities could have impressed almost anyone. Fernand cared more about what happened between the people using them.
The Arkaders Program rested upon three pillars: Cerebro, Físika and Concordia.
These were their standard names, used unchanged across languages.
What will you do with what you learn?

ARKADEMY
LEARNING FOR A REBORN WORLD
Location: Arkadia · Educational district
Terrestrial year: 2128
Facilities: Science · Engineering · Arts · Physical training
Educational model: The Arkaders Program
Principles: Cerebro · Físika · Concordia

ARKADERS PROGRAM
KNOWLEDGE · ACTION · CONNECTION
Developer: Fernand Claes
Institution: Arkademy · Arkadia
Cerebro: Intelligence · Understanding · Creativity
Físika: Physical ability · Discipline · Responsible action
Concordia: Cooperation · Empathy · Trust
Method: Practical challenges · Integrated learning

Cerebro developed understanding: science, reasoning, imagination, the arts and the willingness to question an easy answer. Knowing how a system worked also meant considering whom it served and what might happen when it failed.
Show me how you reached that answer.

CEREBRO
INTELLIGENCE · UNDERSTANDING · CREATIVITY
Program: Arkaders Program · Arkademy
Focus: Intelligence · Understanding · Creativity
Studies: Science · History · Philosophy · Engineering · Arts
Practice: Question assumptions · Investigate · Create
Responsibility: Understand how knowledge is used.

Físika concerned the body: health, movement, coordination, endurance and the responsible use of physical ability. Students learned to understand their capabilities and recognise their limits.
Concordia concerned life with others: communication, empathy, leadership, disagreement and trust. It asked what a person could accomplish alongside people whose experiences, strengths and priorities differed from their own.
The pillars belonged together. An idea needed judgement, the ability to act and people willing to work towards it.

FÍSIKA
DISCIPLINE · PRECISION · RESPONSIBLE ACTION
Program: Arkaders Program · Arkademy
Focus: Physical ability · Discipline · Practical action
Development: Health · Movement · Coordination · Endurance
Control: Movement · Precision · Health
Responsibility: Use physical capabilities responsibly.

Music had a place in that education. So did making things, shared projects and role-playing games.
Around a game table, a student might have to speak for a character unlike themselves, negotiate with someone they distrusted or accept the consequences of a choice the group had made. An imaginary problem could reveal a very real difficulty in listening.
Fernand enjoyed watching brilliant students discover that being right did not automatically make anyone follow them.
What if we listen before we decide?
That would be a change.

CONCORDIA
COOPERATION · EMPATHY · TRUST
Program: Arkaders Program · Arkademy
Focus: The ability to live and work with others
Skills: Cooperation · Empathy · Communication
Practice: Conflict resolution · Leadership
Foundation: Trust

EASTERN COMBAT COMPLEX
FÍSIKA FACILITIES
Location: Arkademy · Arkadia
Terrestrial year: 2128
Program: Físika · Arkaders Program
Focus: Movement · Balance · Coordination
Purpose: Understand ability. Act responsibly.

Pandora and Circe helped turn those principles into everyday life.
Pandora had violet hair, violet eyes and a gift for noticing the question someone had decided not to ask. She could make a room feel welcoming without losing sight of anything happening inside it.
You can ask me.

INTELLIGENCE LABORATORY
ASK BETTER QUESTIONS
Location: Arkademy · Western science building
Mentor: Fernand Claes
Tools: Interactive models · AI · Robotic manufacturing
Challenge: Improve energy distribution without adding power.
Principle: Understand the problem before asking AI.

Circe was more reserved. Her dark eyes missed little, and her calm could silence an argument before she raised her voice. She expected honesty, especially when the truth was inconvenient.
Start with the truth.

They had helped raise the six for so long that their presence belonged to the meaning of home. Pandora knew when to invite a conversation. Circe knew when someone was trying to escape one. Neither was easily deceived.
Together with Fernand, they offered something no institution could guarantee by design: adults the six trusted enough to disappoint, challenge and return to.
